Description

Spree is a complete open source e-commerce solution for Ruby on Rails. This event will feature two presentations from developers using Spree professionally. The presentations will be aimed at people who haven't used Spree before, and introduce some of the benefits and challenges of the framework.

Agenda

19:00 〜 19:30 Doors open

Grab a drink and catch up with your fellow Rubyists.

19:30 〜 19:50 How I learned to stop worrying and use the Spree Kei Shiratsuchi

Why use Rails and Spree? Why should you undertake your own business? What are Spree's good and bad points? How can you master it? This presentation will answer these questions.

Profile

Kei Shiratsuchi is working for Oh My Glasses, an start-up that sells glasses online. He is from Sapporo, and loves JavaScript and Ruby.

20:00 〜 20:30 Degica on Spree Chris Salzberg

A leading provider of e-commerce solutions, Degica is a small but growing company whose cart and payment systems move products and services in Japan and around the world.

Over recent years, Degica has transitioned from an outdated, hard-to-maintain technology stack to a more efficient, reliable one built on Ruby on Rails and Spree. The transition, while challenging and not yet complete, is helping Degica to position itself as a uniquely competent, dynamic technology company at the intersection of local and global markets.

Leveraging Spree is key to this transition. The Degica platform extends Spree to meet the needs of customers and clients through new gems, decorators and other custom code. In this talk, I'll present some of these customizations and also discuss how Degica gives back to the community through bug fixes and other contributions to spree-core itself.

Profile

Chris Salzberg leads the web development team at Degica's Tokyo office. A full-stack Ruby on Rails developer originally from Montreal, Canada, he is one of the authors of Globalize, the Rails I18n de-facto standard library for ActiveRecord model/data translation, and a recent contributor to Spree. He blogs at dejimata.com.

20:30 〜 22:00 Open Networking

Discuss the presentations or anything else Ruby related with the other attendees.
